Description
Game of Thrones Lagavulin 9 Year Old House Lannister Single Malt Whisky 750ml
- WHY: For the last 20 years or so, no single malt whisky has defined the connoisseur’s palate like Lagavulin. Macallan 18 may be the popular choice for gifts, but the smoky, peaty, complexly-integrated flavor profile of Lagavulin has proven time and time again to separate those who simply drink Scotch from those who truly appreciate it. It’s the bellwether of fine Scottish single malt for the 21st century, and for our crazy price of $24 you should buy as many bottles as you can possibly afford. We will likely never see sub-$50 Lagavulin again in our lifetime.
- HOW: The 9 year old GOT edition is aged entirely in ex-Bourbon casks, bringing out the fruitiness of the malt and bolstering the peat and smoke with ample vanilla and oak spices.
- WHAT: Lagavulin was officially founded in 1816, but there’s evidence that distillation was happening on site as far back as the mid-1700s. Located on the island of Islay, it’s part of the Johnnie Walker empire, but these days—given the tremendous popularity of the brand—much of the single malt is held back for individual releases rather than blending. Along with Macallan, Glenlivet, and Glenfiddich, it’s one of the most iconic distilleries in the world of Scotch whisky.
