The Augur Wine Company is the brainchild of Maz Naba, former drinks director for the Michelin-starred Nico and Top 40 Under 40 Tastemaker from the Wine Enthusiast. After learning side by side with some of his favorite producers from Santa Cruz, Sonoma Coast, and Santa Barbara, Maz launched his first vintage of Augur in 2016. Focusing on natural wines and sourcing grapes solely from single vineyard sites in coastal and cool climate regions that are certified organic, the Augur wines represent not just an underrepresented side of California’s historic wine regions, but an entirely new manifestation of them. The Pinot Gris from Mora Vineyard in San Benito just outside Salinas is one of the most exciting new natural wines in our store right now, tart and tangy in character, but with so much depth and nuance. White raspberries, wild strawberries, hibiscus, cranberry….just wow!
