Jefferson’s Marian McLain Limited Edition Bourbon 750ml
In recent years, Jefferson’s NAS (non age statement) releases haven’t captured the imagination of Bourbon drinkers the way more transparent bottlers have been able to, which is what sent Zoeller and team back to the drawing board. With the single barrel market waning as of late, Jefferson’s created a new five-whiskey blend to pay homage to Trey’s 8th generation grandmother: Marian McLain, a famed moonshiner in her day.
Since Marian had five children to support through illicit whiskey sales, the new Marian McLain uses five different whiskies to create a mouthwatering whiskey that captures bold flavors from across the spectrum.
- 40% 11-Year-Old Bourbon
- 21% 14-Year-Old Bourbon
- 17% Rum Cask Finish Bourbon
- 14% Wheated Double-Barrel Bourbon
- 8% 8 Year-Old Bourbon
A recent article in the Robb Report gave the whiskey a glowing review, writing:
“Marian McLain is bottled at higher 102 proof, but that doesn’t leap out at you on the nose. Instead, there are notes of cinnamon and honey, along with a bit of oaky char. That tannic note continues into the palate along with some musty leather, but that is buttressed by a bouquet of dried fruits, orange zest, milk chocolate, espresso, and even some banana and a hint of mango. Each particular age statement, cask finish, and state of origin brings a specific flavor to the whiskey, and this precise construction has yielded great results.”
