Description
Torres Acosta Rosso Quota N 2021
Varietals: 50% Nerello Mascalese, 20% Grenache, 30% white grapes (Grecanico, Carricante, Coda di Volpe)
Eduardo acquired this beautiful half-hectare parcel of ungrafted (hence piedi franco on label), mixed-variety, 80-100 year old vines in the contrada (district) of Nave on the north face of Mt. Etna in 2018. The vineyard is surrounded by ancient stone walls and features very rocky, sandy volcanic soils. The name “Quota N” pinpoints the parcel quite literally: the tiny dirt access road is called the Strada Quota Nave. Eduardo was not permitted to use the full word “Nave” because its 1070-meter altitude exceeds the limits of the appellation laws. This is quite literally rare air.
The bunches are hand-harvested, vinified as a mix of whole clusters and destemmed berries, co-fermented spontaneously with native yeasts and without sulfur or temperature control in concrete tank. Maceration lasts around 15 days. The wine is aged for 10 months in concrete tank with minimal racking. It is bottled without fining or filtration and with a tiny amount of sulfur.
